History and Headcanon
Polly’s father led a semi-famous, government-funded pirate/slaver crew based primarily in the Terminus systems. Her mother occupied a minor clerical position in the Hegemony. Two years ago (via the Khar’shan-cyclic calendar), Polly’s mother died of a sudden illness. Her father was away on business at the time. He never returned, and no communication has been received from any of his crew over the intervening months.
Underage and effectively an orphan, Polly was turned over, by law, to the tender care of her mother’s employer, the batarian Hegemony. Trained by her handler, a batarian known to her only by his codename, “Superior,” Polly proved herself to be bright, adaptable, and eager to please—all fitting attributes for a spy. Her youth and sincerity helps defuse suspicion and natural galactic bias against batarians, which makes her a perfect candidate for infiltration of alien social and political groups.
Polly is currently on assignment at the Citadel. Posing as an average batarian refugee, she is to acquire intel on several persons of interest—most notably (to the collective surprise of exactly no one) the infamous human terrorist, Commander Shepard.
Headcanons:
- Unlike many batarians, Polly is not overtly hostile toward humans; however, she is terrified of them. Fed Hegemony propaganda from a young age, she believes humans to be barbaric and cruel. Recently, however, she has had the opportunity to interact with some humans, and has found that many of the “facts” she once knew are false. It is still hard for a human to earn her trust, but she is no longer as sure of her bias as she once was.
- The Hegemony was still in power when she left Khar’shan, and, as far as she knows, it still is. Even if aliens or other batarians reference the fall of the Hegemony or the current alliance between Balak and the Alliance, Polly will likely pay no heed or misunderstand.
